Surprise! You didn’t think I’d really leave you hanging for the rest of the year, did you?! Well, I’m taking a tiny break from my holiday break to share one last project with you—no, really, this time.

Before you don your New Year’s Eve get-up and pop the cork on that celebratory champagne, why not toss together a collection of simple DIY felt ball kabob cocktail stirrers? This simple 5-minute project is an easy way to add a little pizazz to your New Year’s celebration tomorrow, even if it’s just you, your honey, and the dog. Or—as in our case—you, your honey, the dog, and three rambunctious cats.

Supplies

The process couldn’t be simpler. Just choose three coordinating (or random, if you prefer) colored felt balls, and then pierce them through the middle using needles of various thicknesses.

To get the hole big enough to fit your cocktail stir stick, start with the smallest sized needle and then graduate up to a thicker needle. Hold the felt ball securely in one hand with your fingertips, push the needles through one at a time, and spin the outer tip around with your other fingertips to slowly widen the hole.

To finish, push your felt ball “beads” onto a wooden skewer or plastic cocktail stirrer so that they all bunch up at the end. If you need to trim down your wooden skewer (mine is actually a grilling skewer meant for meat kabobs), use a pair of heavy duty sheers to lop off a few inches of wood from the end.

The colorful felt balls add a pop of festive color to any drink, and can be used over and over again with hand cleaning. Cheers and see you in 2016!
