What’s In My Grown Up Book Bag

Welcome to #dgdofficeweek! For the next five days, I’ll be sharing back-to-school themed projects and ideas meant to inspire you as you head back to campus—or for those of you looking for a little post-grad pick-me-up. So, grab your to-list and make sure that you don’t miss a day, because it all starts right now!

Today, I’m diving down deep into my grown up book bag. I’m more than a little excited that this traditional accessory has reemerged as a trend amongst students and working adults. I just recently snagged this navy/orange beauty for myself care of Krochet Kids Intl. The team behind this non-profit apparel brand—whose ultimate goal is to empower women in developing nations and to celebrate the people behind our products—has really put care into the design of their collections, and this bag doesn’t disappoint. It’s super roomy and fits all of the odds and ends I need while working on-the-go outside of my studio office.

Below, you’ll find a breakdown of everything that I make sure to pack in my Brooklyn book bag whenever I decide to give myself an afternoon away from the comforts of home.

What’s In My Grown Up Book Bag

  • Stack of books and magazines: One of the main reasons why I leave my office in the first place is to mix up my surroundings in order to get re-inspired. Having fresh reading material to pour over while sitting down at a coffee shop really helps me get into the right frame of mind.
  • Notebook, pens, colorful markers: Whenever ideas strike, I jot them down in a fresh notebook. As a bonus, I also pack a neon marker to highlight the BIG ideas to revisit as soon as I get home.
  • Sticky patterned paper tabs: These are my ideal bookmarks because they don’t fall out as I drag books into and out of my book bag.
  • My phone and charger: Obviously! But really, another big reason I get out and about is to spend a little time with myself, and that often means a big old indulgent scan of social media on my iPhone.
  • Business cards: Having some of these on-hand makes me feel extra prepared in case I find an opportunity to network.
  • Blank greeting cards: I rarely find a free moment to send snail mail these days, but those five minutes while I’m waiting for my coffee order to be made? That’s the perfect time to scrawl out a quick yet heartfelt message to a friend or family member.
  • EOS lip balm: Because I’m addicted.
  • My Intel tablet: I don’t really like to lug my entire laptop out with me on these excursions. Instead, I bring my tablet because it’s small enough to toss into my bag, and I can still answer emergency emails with ease.
