I think it’s a commonly accepted fact that lighting is important first and foremost to…well, provide light. But I love love LOVE how designers have taken things one step further across the centuries by creating what can easily be classified as works of art. You’ll see a mixture of metallics and glass, reflactive surfaces and matte finishes, round and square, tabletop and floor. Heck, some lamps are fashioned directly on TOP of sculptural or figural art works, further blurring the line between utilitarian and decorative. Today I celebrate light, and all the big beautiful fixtures that create it.

what are your thoughts on lamps on the fireplace mantle? i’m undecided, especially since they’d be flanking the tv, but we desperately need more light in our living room and don’t want to have to hardwire anything into the walls…
Have you looked into plug in sconces? They look great but don’t have to be hard wired – just hung on the wall near an outlet!
I love so many of these options! I’m really looking for some fun statement pieces to add to our traditionally decorated home. Lighting seems like a great place to start 🙂
Fun fun!! And I agree. Lighting is a GREAT place to start 🙂
Love the setting with the two lamps and branches of leaves!
