Color has been such a huge inspiration for me lately, and I’ve loved incorporating it more and more into our home, whether we’re talking bold patterned wallpaper, a new-to-me paint color, a gallery wall of vintage paintings, or—as in this case—bedding. I’ve tried my hand at mixing different colors before when it comes to the fabrics I use on our beds, but I’ll admit that it has been a while since I went quite so high contrast as what you see in today’s post. I wasn’t sure it was going to work, but I’m really glad that I decided to trust the process because the updated bedding in our guest room might just be my favorite look to date.

I teamed up with Muslin Comfort again to create this color-blocked bedding arrangement, and truly have nothing but glowing things to say about their 100% cotton fabrics. The colors are true to what you see on your screen when ordering off their website, and have never once bled in my washing machine. I’ve already washed and re-washed these blankets multiple times, and the color is just as vibrant as the day they arrived in the mail. They also get softer with each wash, so I have zero qualms about sticking them in the machine every time during my weekly washing routine.

For this color-blocked combination, I chose their 365 Blanket in the color “Undyed,” pillow shams and throws in “Earthy Gray” and “Moss,” and a bottom sheet in “White” (use code “CARRIE26” for a discount off your order if you want to try the same combo). I took color inspiration directly from the plants that I have peppered throughout this space, which is where the idea for that rich green and cream color palette came from. I love how the dark color pops off the lighter tones in the bedding. The pairing gives this room so much more personality and texture, in my opinion.

I ended up spending several days in the guest room last week while dealing with a stomach bug, and even though I felt really crummy inside, outside I was very cozy thanks to the cotton fabrics I wrapped myself in. I never got over-heated, and the softness of the bottom sheet below and blanket above really comforted me during what was otherwise a rotten few days.

Would you try this type of color-blocked look on your own bed? It might sound complicated if you’ve never heard that term before, but I promise that it’s a cinch to pull off. All you need to do is pair fabrics in contrasting colors to create a visually layered effect. Try a neutral light-colored bed blanket as your foundation across the whole bed, and then add matching pillow shams and a throw blanket in a darker color at the top and foot of your bed. Easy as can be, but the final look feels very considered and high end.
