I get asked almost weekly over on my Instagram if I offer in-home or virtual home décor styling services, and the truth is that I actually don’t. I often wonder if I should add interior design to my business lineup because of the interest I get, but that just isn’t on-brand for me. I started my business 14 years ago with the mission of teaching homeowners how to do their own decorating and styling because I truly believe that anyone can do it with the right support and some good old fashioned trial and error. I’m a self-taught designer myself, and find so much satisfaction in learning as I go when it comes to room makeovers. I’m proud of what we’ve done with our home on our very meager décor budget, and my goal as an entrepreneur is to teach fellow homebodies how to achieve that level of satisfaction themselves. Which is why I wrote a book that explains exactly how to do that!
My blog, of course, serves as a place for sharing weekly DIY home how-to guides, but I dreamt of writing a more comprehensive and focused book that explained my detailed process for designing a home. So, between 2021 and 2022, I spent five months writing and perfecting Your DIY Guide To Home Decorating, and ultimately self-published it in April of that latter year. My 60-page ebook is packed with information that I’ve picked up over the past two decades of being a homemaker, including how I start a room makeover (arguably the hardest part!), my favorite shopping resources for furniture and accessories, tips for picking out vintage finds for your spaces, my styling process broken down into four steps, plus exclusive DIY craft tutorials that will add personal flair to your home.
By the way, you’ll receive a digital copy of the book with your purchase that can be read easily on your phone, tablet, or laptop, or you can choose to print the book, like I did. For those asking about the printed copy I’ve shown in photos on Instagram and here on the blog, I special-ordered mine online. Click here for the website I used (please use the honor system, though, and only print one!). Or you can just print your physical copy from your computer.
I’m so proud of this book, and truly feel like it’s a great starting point for those of you who don’t know how to go about decorating your home. It’s definitely bad for my business to say this, but you really don’t need to hire me or anyone else to do it for you. You just need to trust yourself and your own creativity. I feel so strongly that you’ve got what it takes to create your dream living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom—whatever it may be!
That said, I totally understand feeling a little lost and overwhelmed before kicking off a project, which is why I wrote my guide book. I wanted to help fellow wannabe DIY decorators feel less alone, and kick start their ideation so that a room makeover feels less stressful and far more fun. That’s how it should be, after all. Decorating a home is such a privilege and it deserves to be something that you relish and enjoy. If you want to test your skills, start here, and don’t forget to come back to this blog post from time to time to share updates with us in the comments section.
