It’s no secret that I love change when it comes to décor. No room in our home is safe from my need to swap around art, lighting, bedding, rugs, and furniture. That said, there are some changes that are, understandably, easier to make than others. Rugs are probably the hardest thing to swap out since they require moving all of the furniture off before rolling up the old rug so we can unroll the new one. Large pieces of furniture are next on the list when sorted from hardest to easiest things to change in a room. The one exception, though, is a side or coffee table. These usually only requires a 5-minute clearing of accessories from tabletops to make room for something new, so I try to do this semi-regularly in order to refresh our spaces.

I have two new tables to introduce you to today, although the truth is that they’re actually the same table—one is just their “Tall” version and the other is the “Short.” Meet the Matt Nesting Coffee Table from Hulala Home! I ordered the table in the color “Lime,” which meant that our two tabletops have a lovely light blonde-colored mottling to the finish. It also comes in “Black” and “Oak” if that’s more your style.

As you’d expect from the name, the two versions of this table, when ordered together, can be nested together to create multi-layered surfaces to situate in front of your sofa, but they can also be arranged apart, like we have done here in our sunroom. We’re using the shorter table as a traditional solo coffee table in front of our sectional, and the taller table is next to our lounge chair in the corner to be used as a side table. There’s lots of versatility with this set.

I also really love the slatted wood detailing around the base of these tables. That adds lots of great texture to the space, and a bit of contemporary flair, which I appreciate since so much of our furniture is decidedly 1960s in style. These new tables make the room feel a little more “2025,” if you know what I mean. Don’t get me wrong: I’m smitten with our mid-century furniture, but I think one or two contemporary elements make a retro-decorated space look more refined and not quite so mid-century “themed.”

You do have to assemble these pieces of furniture yourself, but they’re very easy to put together. I assembled them on my own in less than an hour one afternoon, and thought the instructions were very simple to follow. As soon as I swapped out the old furniture for these new pieces, the room looked so much more modern and elevated. It really is amazing how just one or two small furniture swaps can completely change the look and feel of a room. What kinds of décor swaps are you considering this summer?
