Review: “No Assembly” Boneless Sectional Sofa

Review: "No Assembly" Boneless Sectional Sofa

If you follow me on Instagram, then you know we welcomed a new couch to our collection at the tail end of last year. I was offered the couch in exchange for a review on my account, and had so much fun sharing about it in video form on my Instagram here during the holiday season. I wanted to make sure I mentioned it here, though, too, since I know some of you are just blog followers, so I rephotographed the couch styled for the new year with all of our Christmas accents tucked away until next December. Keep scrolling to see details and read my full review.

The coolest thing about this sofa (which you’ll get a much better sense of if you watch the video) is that it’s “boneless,” meaning it has no frame or solid structure to speak of. It arrived in boxes similar to how you’ve likely seen shipped memory foam mattresses arrive. You cut open the two boxes that the couch comes in, carefully slice through the vacuum-sealed plastic wrap, and then the sofa almost magically expands to its full size. It takes a couple of days for the couch to reach its full shape, but you can sit on it immediately—just know that it might look a little slumped right out of the box and that it’ll get better as time goes on.

I honestly didn’t expect to love this couch as much as I do! It’s higher quality than I thought it would be when first learning about the concept of a boneless couch, and now I’m seeing lots of other brands selling copy cat versions online. Ours is from the brand SONGMICS Home, by the way, which is a brand I’ve worked with many times and love. You can get yours on Amazon here or on their website, and it’s surprisingly affordable as well. It’s currently 20% off and listed for just $400 on Amazon.

Our whole family loves to lounge on this couch. It’s large (the same scale as a regular sofa), and has a super soft, cozy ribbed fabric upholstery. I love how the attached arms are rounded all the way down to the seat so you can easily lay your head back comfortably for a nap or to read a book. Once it’s fully expanded, the sofa is a good balance of soft and firm, again, sort of like your typical memory foam mattress. You can push your hand in easily on the surface, but then you reach a stopping point within the construction of the sofa padding so that you don’t just keep sinking in. This surprised me since there’s no frame within this couch. It’s not too firm, and not too soft.

So, yeah, the main takeaway I have from experiencing this boneless couch is “surprised”! I was surprised to see that it turned into a full size couch (it’s not at all squat or disproportionate). I was surprised that it was so comfortable and offered good support. I was surprised by the price at well under $1,000. It’s all-around an unexpected gem of a couch! I also like how the design and style looks sort of mod and youthful alongside our 1960s antiques. I included a photo below of the couch styled for the holidays so you can get a sense of scale a little better since I’m actually sitting on it. We love it! Watch my video here if you want to see the unboxing and expansion in action, and shop the sofa this way if you have a spot for it in your own home.
