Wallpapered Fireplace Feature Wall Reveal

*Today’s post was made possible by Fancy Walls, and features gifted product for the purposes of a candid review. All opinions are my own.

I’ll tell you what…There’s something really extra special about walking into your home and seeing a wallpaper that you designed up on the walls…This is the first time I’ve used one of my patterns from the collection I developed with Fancy Walls in our home in a full-scale project, and I’m absolutely smitten with the results. As I explained last week, I was on a mission to lighten and brighten our front formal living room, so I first repainted the once-dark walls a new light beige color. I only painted three of the four walls, though, with plans to wallpaper the fireplace wall to create a unique focal point.

I had always pictured using one of my bonsai-inspired patterns in our formal living room, and I ultimately chose the lighter version that I designed with Fancy Walls. This “Cream Branching Bonsai” pattern is more minimalist than my “Tan Branching Bonsai,” and I thought the former might complement the new creamy wall color best. The background of this peel-and-stick wallpaper is a little darker than the paint on either side wall, but I think that just helps the wall stand out even more.

The installation, as always, was a breeze, except for the fact that I had to take down the two hardwired sconces. But that was a pretty straight forward process, so I would still call this one “beginner” level. I was so impressed to see how well the light creamy color of this wallpaper completely covered the super dark blue/green paint color underneath. I didn’t have to repaint the wall—the wallpaper masked every bit of it on its own! You might have noticed that I left the fireplace mantle painted dark. I thought this little bit of high contrast color mixing would give the room a nice dose of interest, and I love the final effect.

The new branching floral design on the walls feels so authentically mid-century to me (perfect for our 1960s home!), and reminds me of the interiors in so many of my favorite classic films. Stay tuned later on this year as I continue to add more of my custom designs with Fancy Walls to our home so you can get a better sense of the patterns in a physical home. I know it can be hard to visualize the designs when seen in just a small sample swatch or mood board, so these blog posts are my way of showing you how they look in real life. Please let me know what you think of our new wallpapered fireplace feature wall in the comments below.

New Handmade Ceramics In My Etsy Shop

Handmade Modern Ceramics For Sale On Etsy

And just like that, it’s officially fall and time for a brand new collection of handmade ceramics to go live in my DGD Pottery Etsy shop! Click here to take a look at the entire lineup of pieces if you just can’t wait, but I thought I’d share a few more details about the launch in today’s blog post for those of you who want more of the full story.

This year had felt really special for me when it comes to my pottery business. I don’t think I’m alone in saying that COVID broke me a little bit. I felt like I was just hitting my stride building a career for myself at our local community ceramics studio, but then the world shut down because of the pandemic, and my progress was stopped in its tracks. It has taken far too long for me to bounce back from that physical and mental interruption, but I finally feel myself ramping up. I’m ready to make pottery a major part of my business and brand moving forward—possibly my main focus as the years progress.

Thanks to this newfound burst of motivation, I’ve been much more active at our community studio and, as you saw, I also made the investment to put in a home pottery studio here in our retro ranch. Having my throwing wheel downstairs has meant that I’ve been able to throw, trim, draw on, and finesse clay at nearly all hours of the day, and I’ve taken full advantage of that. This is my seventh year as a working ceramicist, but I think this single 2025 year has allowed me to experience more growth than ever before.

All that to say that this latest fall drop in my online pottery shop feels the most like “me.” I can finally see myself in these pieces. The hand-drawn floral motifs, tapered silhouettes, and colors excite me immensely, and I hope that you love them, too. Shop the full collection (both what’s left of the summer drop, and this fall’s pieces) here in the DGD Pottery Etsy shop, and, as always, feel free to leave your comments, requests, and suggestions in the comments of today’s blog post if you have them so that I can continue to evolve the selection that I make available. I am planning on releasing a few more pieces later this year in a special “Holiday Drop,” like matcha bowls, spoon rests, and more, so keep an eye out for those updates later on in the season.

Pssst…Don’t forget that all pottery purchases come with my free 16-page digital “Ceramics Styling Guide” including 20+ ways to arrange, organize, and just generally make the most of your handmade pottery collection.
