Today is going to be a lightening-fast post…Got TONS of stuff going on at my day job to get things settled and squared away for my replacement. I still can’t believe that my last day ever here is tomorrow…
Quick side note: Despite all the crazy change going on in my life right now, my ultimate goal is to not have to take a break from the blog. The few loyal readers I have mean the world to me and I don’t want to let you guys down. I know that I personally get really sad when my own favorite daily blog reads go on hiatus for a bit, so I’m going to do my best to save you from that little disappointment. Besides, I would miss blogging – It’s definitely one of my favorite things 🙂
So here I am with another weekly “Thrift Store SCORE!” before the day gets going!
For those of you who don’t know me, my favorite animal is the shark. I love how dangerous and mysterious they are and have been HOOKED on the Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week” for as long as I can remember. Small interjection though – Is anyone else really disgusted by how their material the last few years has been more along the lines of “KILLER SHARKS: See a Man Survive the Most Gruesome Attack in History!!!” rather than cool documentaries about history and scientific facts? Annoyed.
All that said when my dad stumbled upon a beautiful hand-carved wooden shark at our favorite thrift store downtown, I was drooling to have it added to my collection…I’ve already got these two little guys sitting on my studio bookcase, reminders of trips to our favorite family beach in South Carolina:
My sweet dad must have been feeling EXTRA generous that day because he ended up taking it to the register!!! You’ve gotta know my dad to understand how cool this is…He gives me the hardest time with my thrifting obsession – I give him a hard time right back, although I think he’s probably got a point sometimes…”Dads know best”, right??
So without further adu meet my newest shark, Bruce!! (every shark I own is named Bruce – I think it might have something to do with “Finding Nemo”)
Isn’t the grain of the wood SOOO pretty? Not sure what kind of wood this is, but it’s got this rich rosy undertone that’s even deeper in person.
And seriously, what more do I have to say when you see the tiny intricate details in the carving – Right down to the eye and little row of razor-sharp teeth!
Thanks, dad!!! I will always cherish this little guy 🙂
P.S. Only 23 more days until SHARK WEEK 2011!!!!!!!!!!
