I haven’t made it a secret that I’m a pretty big fan of Laura Hooper Calligraphy. Gorgeous hand lettered script is just something I naturally gravitate towards, having grown up around the art. For as long as I can remember, my mom has been doing custom lettering for church certificates, diplomas and wedding invitations, so I’ve always had a great appreciation for this art. I never thought that I’d be able to follow suit though – that is, until I caught wind of Laura Hooper and her genius starter kit.
Having since had the chance to try it out for myself, I’m hooked. In the kit, Laura includes notes and practice sheets that help to break down the process step by step. Within just an hour or so, I was writing out my name, my sister’s name, my friends’ names, my cat’s name – pretty much anything my eye flicked over to, I was writing it out in calligraphy. I started out practicing on a J.Crew paper bag, eventually moved on to cardboard and finished on pretty card stock envelopes.
If you have ever hoped to learn calligraphy, this kit will give you the confidence you need to make it happen – and I’m not just saying that. I’m infatuated with this new skill, and I know you will be, too.
Happily, I’m not quite done sharing all of the wonderful plans Laura and I have worked up together. I can’t spill all of the beans with you yet, but just know that it’s all about Valentine’s Day in this little abode of ours, and Laura’s beautiful work is peppered throughout the scene. Details soon, but in the meantime, check out Laura’s Etsy shop for your immediate V-Day script fix!
So tell me. Have you been dying to learn calligraphy, too?
I adore calligraphy but am sad to say I am lazy and don’t think I would ever put much effort into learning- especially since I do not have people in my life that would really appreciate the craft. For instance, I spend a lot of time one beautiful gift wrap and bows and people just say “ooh she’s fancy…” But still give me gifts in re-used gift bags. Ha ha. My laziness and other’s nonchalance are a bad combo.
Awwww, you should just do it for your own enjoyment =) That’s what I do!
I had a starter kit when I was a kid that taught me some of the basics. I still remember a few of them but would love a refresher. I love calligraphy and think it would be wonderful to have that skill for note writing and crafts.
Maybe we’ll host a local workshop one of these days so that you can get a refresher!
I had a starter kit, too, and I wanted to learn because my mom did calligraphy. I haven’t really done any in years, but over the holidays I was painting some quick watercolors to sprinkle around the house, and I did a few with lettering. It was fun, and it made me want to get back in the swing. Laura’s kit looks like a great place to start!
Sounds beautiful!!
