How To Install A Radiant Wireless Charger

When it comes to daily tasks, there are a few that I would skip in a heartbeat if I could: blow-drying my hair (hate it!), dealing with cat litter (yuck…), and having to plug my phone in to charge every single night (such a pain). Although the first two items on my list are just plain inevitable considering my love for morning showers and cats, the third thing is actually pretty easy to work around.

Enter: the radiant Wireless Charger by Legrand. When the team reached out to ask if I’d like to test their phone-charging outlet, I probably gave them whiplash with my almost-immediate response. “Yes, I’d love to,” I said, and it turns out that wireless charging is just as game-changing as you might think. If you loathe having to remember to plug your phone in at night, or (worse still!) hate dealing with a phone that craps out on you mid-scroll on Instagram, then you’re definitely going to want to check out our latest tech swap below.

So, the product itself is just as crazy-cool as it sounds. There’s an outlet, and then just off to the side of the outlet is a slot where you can slip your phone in to charge, sans wires or cables. I’ve tried to plug my phone in at night at the last second in the dark just as I was nodding off to sleep, and it’s always a mess. This outlet, though, makes mid-sleep charging a breeze. Just slide your phone into the charging station to power up. You can literally do it with your eyes closed.

The good news is that installation is almost just as easy (although I definitely don’t recommend doing that with your eyes closed). The package comes with three things: detailed instructions, your new outlet, and the charging faceplate. To install, turn off the circuit breaker to your chosen outlet, disconnect the old outlet, wire up the new outlet, and snap the wireless charging faceplate over it. After you turn the circuit breaker back on, you’re golden.

I’m no professional electrician, but I was able to do the swap in less than 30 minutes. Because of my experience, I have zero hesitation in saying that, if you have rudimentary electrical skills like I do (i.e. understand the basic concept of “this wire” to “that wire”) then you can do this install by yourself, too. That said, I want to stress that there’s nothing shameful about calling a pro if you feel even the least bit hesitant about dealing with electrical. Call up a licensed contractor or handyman to tackle this one if it makes you more comfortable! Since the product installation itself is so straightforward, I can’t imagine it costing much at all to hire out the task to a handyman.

My second favorite thing about our new wireless charger (aside from functionality, of course) is the fact that it looks pretty cool, too. We chose a sleek white outlet to try in our kitchen and one in gold for our dining room, but it also comes in another shade of gold, and also black. There’s one for everybody, no matter what your décor style might be.

So, where would you install your Legrand radiant wireless charger? Pretty much your only limitation is swapping out a GFCI outlet, which are usually installed to code near water sources, like a sink or bathtub. The Legrand charger isn’t made to be a direct replacement for those types of outlets, but it can go practically anywhere else.
