So sorry for the late post this week guys! Without going into too much detail, I had to take John to the ER thanks to a nasty stomach bug at around 2:00 a.m. Monday morning and we ended up staying for observation until about 6:30 a.m. He’s doing better today and I think we both got a much-needed, good nights’s sleep last night. Here’s hoping my obsessive Lysoling and hand washing will keep me from catching whatever is going around! Anyway, I don’t think that I’ve ever missed a post before, but this is most definitely real life…Now back to the regular scheduled program. 

Recently I’ve found myself asking one simple question when making decisions for our home. For example, if I’m considering a new chair, dresser or (as demonstrated today) art purchase, I’ll pause, tilt my head and mentally entertain a quick thought…

What would Emily Henderson do?

My affinity for whatever this quirky, blonde haired, blue eyed stylist does is no secret to the masses. I’ve talked about her style and design tricks at length here on DGD, but it definitely doesn’t stop at this digital feed. Between a shared love for vintage 1960’s furniture and brass conversation pieces, our tendencies are pretty much kindred spirits, and I’ve certainly made a point to infuse our space with a few of her tricks.

Case in point (if you haven’t already gathered), our new-to-us vintage portrait. This “Lady in a Cardigan,” as dubbed by her tag at the estate shop, cost a measly $30 and is an original painting on stretched canvas. I fell pretty hard for the exposed nail heads on the edge of the canvas and her slightly exaggerated gaze. Her mid-century look was the perfect addition to our living room gallery wall, and as for my semi-rhetorical question? I’d like to think that Emily Henderson would have thought about bringing this lady home, too.
