I call the results of this project my HGTV Flea Market Flip moment—the idea behind the show’s concept, of course, is to transform a flea market treasure into something completely different and refreshed. If you’ve spent any time with Lara Spencer and the rotating cast of creatives on Flea Market Flip, then you know that some of the projects are a little more “miss” than “hit,” but there are a few gems and I’ve been known to soak up a fair amount of inspiration.
Case in point, my new DIY wooden crate side table. I found this discarded, dusty old wooden crate at an antique mall in Williamsburg, Virginia (the same one that I scoured to find these treasures). The minute I saw the dilapidated but intrinsic piece, the wheels in my head began to turn and I could picture it as the perfect little reading nook side table. A couple of weeks later, and it’s finished! You can get the project breakdown—which you can tackle in just a weekend’s time—on eHow.
