Whenever anyone asks how I would describe my interior style, the first thing that comes to mind is “mid-century.” Our home isn’t a shrine to the era or anything like that. We’re not purists since we have our fair share of reproduction pieces and décor items that wouldn’t be considered mid-century at all, but the overarching theme is definitely retro. At least in my opinion!
I grew up watching old movies with my family, and that tradition has carried through into adulthood. To me, there’s no better Saturday afternoon than one spent with Jane Fonda, Audrey Hepburn, Natalie Wood, Katharine Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Barbra Streisand, etc. circa the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s. I think that’s where a lot of my mid-century home décor inspiration came from. Growing up on those movies gave me a passion for everything from tapered furniture legs and colorful geometric prints, to oversized drum shades and wood furniture. Oh, and plants galore!
If you’ve been thinking about establishing a similar retro-inspired vibe in your home, I rounded up a linked list of 12 products that will help get you there. These pieces will give your space a mid-mod look in no time!
Mid-Century Décor Items For Your Home:
12. Geo wallpaper
Hope you fellow mid-century-obsessed homemakers out there found something to love on that list! I personally feel very drawn to the geometric wallpaper and mod hanging plant holders. I just can’t get enough of simplified geometric shapes right now, I guess. Before I go, wanted to share a quick “editor’s note” that I’ll be taking a week off from the blog next week. I’ll still be active on Instagram, though, and will pick back up with new content here starting August 10. See you then!
I can vouch for that dining table–we’ve had it for about 4 years and it’s served well for lots of dinners, holidays, and cats who like to lay on it. 🙂
Oh, good!! That’s great to hear!
