Secondhand Score: Bamboo Nightstands

Secondhand Score: Bamboo Nightstands

Ever since I committed to making nothing but secondhand home décor purchases for 365 days, I’ve noticed that I have the instinct to shop for new items (from places like Target and Amazon) almost every other day. It’s a habit I wasn’t aware of, but now that I know, I’m even more excited to dedicate myself to this 2020 secondhand décor hunt of mine.

Not being able to grab new pieces from “Big Box” stores the moment inspiration strikes has helped curb my spending, which was something I hoped would happen when I declared my year-long vintage shopping challenge. It keeps me from impulse purchasing, too, and makes me think really hard about the pieces we’re adding to our home.

When I happened upon this pair of mid-century bamboo nightstands, though, at one of my favorite secondhand furniture stores, I knew I had found something extra special. It happened back in January when I was still trying hard not to spend a dime for the entire month, but honestly? This find was worth breaking my “No Spend” streak for!

At $145 for the pair, it wasn’t exactly the deal of the century, but it was a great price—one I wasn’t willing to pass up. I actually slept on it for a couple of nights before finally making the decision to purchase the set, but purchase I did, and I don’t regret it one bit.

They’re the perfect addition to our master bedroom, flanking either side of our kind-size bed. Before, if you remember, we had mismatched tables on either side of the bed. They were fine and great (and have since been moved to other areas of the house), but I loved the idea of having matching tables to give the space more of a grown-up vibe.

To carry the matchy-matchy look even further, I stole the pair of identical vintage ceramic table lamps that we had in our dining room to set on top of our new bamboo nightstands. The coordinating sides of the bed feel ultra sophisticated to me, and the style also seems to suit our 1960s home just a little more than the old look did. I can’t help but imagine I’m walking onto the set of some retro Jane Fonda movie whenever I step into the room—to me, there’s nothing better.

So, what do you think of our new vintage nightstands? Did you notice the cool metal knobs and original green marbled tabletops on both? I’m smitten with the look, and with the fact that we doubled our nightstand storage, too! Now tell us all about your latest secondhand score in the comments below.
